JanSport Checked Bags That Go the Distance

Travel can be tough on your gear—your luggage should be tougher. These bags feature the legendary JanSport durability, designed with protective rails and heavy-duty zippers to handle the rigors of transit. For a coordinated travel set, match your checked bag with one of our laptop backpacks for a seamless transition from the plane to the office.

What’s a Checked Bag?

This means luggage that you “check” or drop off at the airline check-in counter before your flight. It travels in the plane’s cargo hold and is collected at baggage claim after arrival.

A checked bag is usually larger than your typical carry-on suitcase that goes in the overhead bin. Checked bags should be sturdy, in case they’re tossed around a little bit while in transit. Since they tend to get heavy, it’s helpful if these bags have wheels. A built-in lock is also a great security measure, since it’s out of your sight for a while.

What Is a Check-in Bag Size Range?

Bags need to be checked when they’re too large to carry onto the plane. A standard maximum carry-on size is about 22 inches in length, 14 inches in height, and 9 inches tall. Any bag larger than this size is going to be a check-in bag.

The standard maximum checked bag size is 62 inches in total —that’s height, width, and length measurements added together. If your bag is larger than this (or weighs more than 50 pounds) you may have to pay extra. Always check your airline’s baggage requirements before traveling.
